Pod_Gift_Shop

The Pod Gift Shop is situated by the pier in Stanley, Falkland Islands and has been run by Pat and Patrick for the past five years. They are ideally situated for when the cruise ships visit as they are the first and last stop for the tourists to visit when they come ashore.

Patrick has a workshop at home from where he produces his sublimated goods to sell in the shop which Pat runs. The Pod Gift Shop in the only gift shop in The Falklands that prides itself in selling only locally produced goods and besides their sublimatable products they also sell knitwear, felted items, jewelry, art-work, greetings cards, jam and sweets all made by Falkland inhabitants. Tourism produces the second highest income in the Falklands with over 80,000 cruise ship passengers arriving this season which runs between late October and early April. (30% increase on last year.) Not bad seeing as the total population of the Islands is less than 3,000.

The shop is open all year round. During the Austral winter Patrick is always busy either re-stocking for the next season or doing special orders for companies. For example last year it was the 25th Anniversary of the Falkland Island Development Corporation a Falkland Islands Government funded organization that help small businesses set up and they asked us to print several hundred key-rings, fridge magnets, mugs etc as complimentary gifts.

The Pod Gift Shop, started life as the Philomel Store, built and operated by Des Peck (a Falklands character) until his passing on, when his son Burnerd took over the business. However, a few years or so ago Burnerd had to give the business up.

Since then it has been operated and run by the two "P's" - Pat and Pat

You might not believe it, but Pat (the "better half" or "er indoors" as Pat the other half sometimes calls her) is an ardent Arsenal FC fan, so if you are a fan of this famous football club as well - you'll get on like a house on fire...with Pat.
