Ross Road (East) - named after Sir James Clark Ross (1800-1862), who commanded HMS Erebus in the 1839-43 British Antarctic Expedition, and he visited the Islands in 1842.When walking along this road please be aware that we drive on the left hand side of the road.On the centre left of the picture, you can see the famous Spire of Christchurch Cathedral, home of the Anglican community of the Falkland Islands.Whilst on your way along the road keep an eye open for Southern Giant-Petrels (macronectes giganteeus) - you are bound to see these great seabirds gliding effortlessly up and down the shoreline of the harbour. |
