Situated on Holdfast Road.Probably the only complete building in the Falklands that arrived here via international air freight! Using Argentine C130 Hercules aircraft.....!Pre-war the only airlink the Falkland Islands had with the ouside world was provided by the Argentine Airforce. This service meant that Argentina had to have an office in Stanley to operate this service; consequently this building was erected in 1980 for the use of the Argentine Air Force Vice Comodoro, who was in charge of the Stanley end of the operation. As a note of interest, this air service linked the Falkland Islands with Comodora Rivadavia, and was considered very unreliable.Later, after the 1982 war it was home to various Commanders of the British Forces Falkland Islands (CBFFI).During the 1982 war to recapture the Falkland Islands, British Forces had reached this particular point when the Argentines surrendered. The order given by Sir Jeremy Moore the Commander of British Land Forces to his troops was to 'Holdfast'......Hence the name - Holdfast Road |
